Cappadocia museum prices in 2026

Turkey prices its state museums in euros for foreign visitors, and Cappadocia's big sites now add up fast. Here is what each gate costs this season, when the pass is worth buying, and the one famous rock it does not cover.

If you visit Cappadocia on a foreign passport, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism sets your ticket in euros and takes your money in lira. The figures below come from the ministry's own ticket shop and site pages on muze.gov.tr, checked on 22 October 2026.

One thing to know before the numbers: Uchisar Castle is not a ministry site. It belongs to the town, it sells its own ticket, and no pass covers it.

The quick answer

In October 2026 a foreign visitor pays €20 for Göreme Open Air Museum, €6 more for the Dark Church, €12 for Zelve-Paşabağ, €13 for Kaymaklı or Derinkuyu and €6 for Özkonak. The Museum Pass Cappadocia costs €65 for 3 days and only beats single tickets if you add Ihlara Valley or a second underground city. Uchisar Castle is municipal: pay a few hundred lira at its kiosk, pass or no pass.

How much do Cappadocia museum tickets cost in 2026?

Göreme Open Air Museum is €20, the Dark Church inside it €6, Zelve-Paşabağ €12, Kaymaklı and Derinkuyu €13 each, and Özkonak €6, all for foreign visitors.

These are the prices the ministry's e-ticket shop showed for Nevşehir province on 22 October 2026. They match the euro figures on each site page, such as the muze.gov.tr page for Göreme. Two small churches near Göreme sit at the bottom of the list: El Nazar at €3, and Çavuşin at €3, which the ministry currently marks as closed.

Some 2026 guides still quote Özkonak at about €3. The ministry lists €6. Use the official number for budgeting, and expect the others to move again one day, because the tariff is reset from Ankara, not locally.

Why do foreign visitors pay in euros, and how do you pay at the gate?

The ministry publishes one price column for Turkish ID holders and one in euros for everyone else. You still pay in lira or by card, at the previous day's central bank rate.

The euro is a pricing unit, not the cash you hand over. A summary of the ministry directive by Şahinoğlu Turizm explains that sales are converted into lira at the Central Bank of Türkiye's selling rate from the day before. The lira figure on the screen changes a little from week to week, and there is no point carrying euro notes.

Turkish citizens play by different rules. They enter most sites with a MüzeKart and cannot buy the euro ticket at all. That is why a Turkish friend may pay a fraction of what you do at the same turnstile. It is policy, not a scam.

Buying online on muze.gov.tr skips the ticket queue at Göreme on busy mornings. The price is the same.

Is the Museum Pass Cappadocia worth it in 2026?

Only for a full sightseeing programme. At €65 for 3 days it beats single tickets once you combine Göreme, the Dark Church, Zelve-Paşabağ, an underground city and Ihlara, or see almost every site.

The official pass page says it is valid for 3 days from your first museum entry, costs €65 and allows one entry per site. The ministry's list of covered sites includes Göreme, the Dark Church, Zelve-Paşabağ, Kaymaklı, Derinkuyu, Özkonak and Ihlara Valley in Aksaray.

Do the sums before you buy. A classic red tour day, Göreme plus Zelve-Paşabağ, costs €32 in single tickets. Many tours already include those fees, which makes a pass dead money. It pays when you go independently for three days and want the Dark Church, both underground cities or the Ihlara walk.

Can you visit Göreme Open Air Museum at night?

Yes. On 22 October 2026 the ministry lists a night opening every day from 18:00 to 23:00, last tickets at 22:30. A foreign visitor pays the standard €20 Göreme ticket.

The Göreme page on muze.gov.tr shows the night session separately from the day hours, and the ministry's night ticket list currently offers only two places in Türkiye: Galata Tower and Göreme. The ministry lit Göreme, Paşabağ, Zelve and Erdemli Valley for evening visits in July 2026, with 692 light fittings according to Turizm Günlüğü.

For foreign visitors the shop sells one Göreme product at €20, so budget the same as a day visit. Turkish MüzeKart holders pay a 200 TL night supplement. The pass page is explicit that the Museum Pass and its variants are not valid at night.

The national night-museum season ran from 1 June to 1 October 2026. Göreme still shows its evening hours, but check the site page on the day before you plan a dinner around it.

What are the museum opening hours this winter?

Göreme is open 08:00 to 17:45 with the ticket office closing at 17:15. Zelve-Paşabağ and the underground cities list 08:00 to 18:00, with the last tickets at 17:15.

These are the hours on each ministry site page on 22 October 2026. Göreme has already dropped from its summer closing of 18:45. Ticket offices shut 30 to 45 minutes before the gates, and that is the time that catches people out.

From November the sun sets around 17:20 to 17:40 in Cappadocia, so late afternoon at Zelve means walking out in the dusk. Do Göreme first thing at 08:00 and keep the underground cities, which are dark anyway, for the afternoon.

Why is Uchisar Castle not covered by the Museum Pass?

Because the town runs it, not the ministry. You pay the castle kiosk in lira, reported at 320 to 400 TL for foreign adults in 2025-26, roughly €7 to €9.

The castle page of the Uçhisar Municipality lists it among the town's own sights, with opening hours of 07:00 to 20:00 and no online ticket. The municipality does not publish its price, so travellers' reports are all there is: they range from 320 to 400 TL for foreign visitors, and Turkish citizens pay less. No MüzeKart, no Museum Pass, no euro tariff.

On a tour, the castle ticket depends on the listing. The classic red route says the castle ticket is included and stops 45 minutes. The red tour with entrance fees gives you 55 minutes, enough to climb. A private guide and car leaves every fee to you: Göreme €20 and Zelve-Paşabağ €12, as its listing says, plus Özkonak €6 and the castle kiosk. Our Uchisar Castle ticket guide covers the kiosk, the climb and the short-stop trap.
