Uchisar Castle tickets

There is no online ticket for Uchisar Castle and no published price list. Here is what visitors actually pay at the kiosk in 2026, what the Museum Pass does and doesn't cover, and which tours leave you enough time to use the ticket.

Uchisar Castle is run by Uçhisar Municipality, not by Türkiye's Ministry of Culture. That one fact explains almost everything confusing about the ticket. The price isn't on muze.gov.tr, the Museum Pass doesn't work, and the figure you read online depends on who wrote it and when.

We pulled together the reports from 2025 and 2026, the opening hours the municipality publishes, and the itinerary of every Viator tour on this site that stops at the castle. Tour prices are Viator from-prices, checked in October 2026.

The quick answer

Foreign adults pay a few hundred lira at the kiosk by the steps, reported at 320 to 400 TL in 2025-26 (roughly €7 to €9). Turkish citizens pay less. You pay on the spot by cash or card, there is no online ticket, and the castle is open 07:00 to 20:00 every day. The Museum Pass and the MüzeKart are not valid. A handful of tours include the fee, but only stops of 30 minutes or more leave time to climb.

How much is the Uchisar Castle entrance fee in 2026?

Reported at 320 to 400 TL for foreign adults, about €7 to €9. The municipality does not publish its tariff online, so treat any single figure as a report, not the official price.

Prices you find online range from 150 TL to €10, and most of that spread is age: lira prices go stale within months. The more recent reports cluster at the top of the range. A lower Turkish-citizen rate shows up in every Turkish source, plus a student rate.

Seyahat Dergisi (Turkish visitors)October 2026250 TL full, 130 TL child, with a note to check with the municipality

Our working number for budgeting: about €9 per adult. If the kiosk asks a little more, prices in lira have simply caught up with inflation again. For the euro-priced Ministry sites nearby, see the 2026 museum price post.

Where do you buy the ticket, and can you pay by card?

At the municipal kiosk at the foot of the steps, by cash or card. There is no online ticket and no queue worth skipping.

The kiosk is at the bottom of the stairway in the village centre, a few minutes on foot from the square where buses and taxis stop. TheOneToGo, which checked in June 2026, confirms payment by cash or card and no online sale. Carry a few hundred lira in notes anyway. Card terminals in Cappadocia drop out more often than you'd like, and the cafés and car park nearby may want cash.

Ignore resellers offering a "skip-the-line" Uchisar ticket. Outside sunset in high summer, the wait at the kiosk is a minute or two. The castle opens at 07:00 and closes at 20:00, every day of the year, according to the municipality's own page. Some travel sites mention later summer closing; plan on 20:00.

Fifty-five minutes at the castle, time to reach the summit, with lunch and entrance fees in the price.

Is Uchisar Castle included in the Museum Pass or the MüzeKart?

No. Both cards cover Ministry of Culture sites only, and the castle belongs to Uçhisar Municipality.

The Museum Pass Cappadocia costs €65 and opens more than ten Ministry museums and archaeological sites in the region for three days, each once. The MüzeKart is the residents' version. Neither is accepted at the castle kiosk, and neither works at privately run viewpoints such as the paid terraces around Göreme.

The same split applies elsewhere in Cappadocia. Göreme Open Air Museum, Zelve-Paşabağ and the underground cities are Ministry sites, priced in euros for foreign visitors. Uchisar is a village-run attraction priced in lira. Budget for it separately.

Do children pay at Uchisar Castle?

Usually yes, from about age 6. One 2025 visitor wrote that children 6 and over paid the full foreign rate; Turkish listings show a reduced child price.

The Tripadvisor review behind the 320 TL figure said "children 6 years and older pay the same" as adults. Seyahat Dergisi lists 130 TL for a child against 250 TL full, but that is the Turkish-visitor tariff. For children under 6, ask at the kiosk.

The bigger question for families is the climb. Roughly 200 to 275 uneven steps, a few low tunnels and a summit with railings but long drops. Older children who are steady on stairs manage it well. Pushchairs and wheelchairs can't go up. The viewpoints around the base are free and give you the classic shot of the rock.

Which tours include the Uchisar Castle ticket, and how long do they stay?

The red tour with entrance fees (55 minutes), the classic red route (45 minutes) and the all-in-one private tour (30 minutes) include it per their listings. The most-booked red tour stops for 15 minutes, a photo stop.

Minutes at the castle matter more than the price of the ticket. Climbing to the top and back takes 25 to 30 minutes at a steady pace, so anything under half an hour is a look from below, and 30 minutes is a brisk climb with a few photos. Here is what each listing says, from the itineraries on Viator:

The low from-prices on the classic route, the small-group tour and the all-in-one private tour are big-group rates. A couple pays more per person; Viator shows the real figure once you enter two travellers. On the 55-minute tour, guests do get to the top. What does Viator's "free admission" mean at Uchisar Castle?

Only that the operator charges nothing extra for that stop. It does not mean the castle is free, and on a short stop it usually means you stay outside.

Viator lets operators tag each itinerary stop as admission included, not included, or free. Several red tours tag Uchisar as free. In practice the bus parks at a viewpoint below the rock, the guide explains how the tuff was carved, and you take photos. Nobody buys a kiosk ticket, because nobody is climbing.

That is fine if all you want is the picture, and the 15-minute stop on the most-booked red tour delivers exactly that. One guest found it "a cool way to start with an easy walk around very interesting rock formations and caves you can walk in". If the summit is the point, pick a stop of 45 minutes or more, or go on your own: the castle is about 4 km from Göreme, and getting there takes a 70 TL bus ride.

The cheapest red tour with a real castle stop: 45 minutes at Uchisar, then Zelve, Paşabağ and Devrent.

What do the other Cappadocia sites cost in 2026?

Göreme Open Air Museum €20, plus a few euros for the Dark Church. Zelve-Paşabağ €12, Kaymaklı and Derinkuyu underground cities about €13 each.

The Ministry has priced its sites in euros for foreign visitors since 2024; you pay in euros, lira or by card at the gate. These are the prices on the current list, as summarised by Kismet Travel in July 2026 and matching the €20 and €12 in the private tour's listing:

Is the Museum Pass Cappadocia worth it?

Only if you visit five or more Ministry tickets in three days. Göreme, Zelve-Paşabağ and both underground cities add up to €58, still below the €65 pass.

Run the numbers before you buy. The pass starts paying for itself once you add small extras on top of the big four, such as the Dark Church (€6), Özkonak (€6) or the Ihlara Valley (€15), all on the ministry's pass list. Most red-tour travellers see two or three paid sites. For them, single tickets or a tour with fees included cost less.

Frequently asked questions

Can I buy Uchisar Castle tickets online?

No. The municipality sells tickets only at the kiosk at the foot of the castle, by cash or card. Websites selling a skip-the-line Uchisar ticket are resellers, and the queue rarely lasts more than a couple of minutes.

What time does Uchisar Castle open and close?

07:00 to 20:00, every day, per the municipality. Sunset is the busiest hour at the top; early morning is the quietest and the coolest in summer.

Can I see Uchisar Castle without paying?

Yes. The village lanes and the viewpoints around the base, including the Pigeon Valley terrace, are free and give the classic view of the rock. The ticket is for the climb and the summit.

Does the most popular red tour include the castle ticket?

It includes all fees on its route, but its Uchisar stop lasts 15 minutes and stays outside. For a climb with the fee paid, choose the red tour with entrance fees (55 minutes) or the classic route (45 minutes).
